Aloratur · Málaga
A coach from Málaga to Ronda, where the Puente Nuevo spans the El Tajo gorge, then a little train into Setenil de las Bodegas, a village built under its rocks. It isn't a Caminito tour: book it for another day of your trip.

The Caminito puts you inside a gorge. Ronda puts you on top of one. The Puente Nuevo is an 18th-century bridge across the El Tajo gorge that links Ronda's old town with the newer market quarter, and inside it there is an interpretation centre on its engineering, geology and history. This trip by Aloratur gives you about four hours of free time in Ronda, or two hours with the optional guided visit, and an optional wine tasting with tapas at Casa Museo Don Bosco.
The second half of the day goes to Setenil de las Bodegas, in the province of Cádiz. Here the houses are built into the rock face, and the lanes of Cuevas del Sol and Cuevas de la Sombra run under a ledge of stone. A little shuttle train takes you into the village, about 10 minutes each way, the listing says, and you get about an hour there. The live guide speaks English and Spanish, with an audio guide in eight languages.
Let's be clear about what it isn't. There is no hike and no Caminito del Rey on this trip, and it takes about nine hours. It suits a free day before or after your Caminito date, or a travel companion who isn't up for the boardwalk. It is also open to children from 4, where the Caminito sets the minimum at 8.
